I remember the days sitting in class dreaming about owning my own pharmacy. Listening and learning from people like Jeff Carson, owner of Oakdell Pharmacy in San Antonio, Texas, who took the time out of his busy schedule to visit UT and give back to students by sharing his experience owning an independent community pharmacy. He was helping young pharmacy students on their entrepreneurial journey. He wasn't getting paid to do this.... he just loved independent pharmacy and loved helping others achieve their dream.
I had the opportunity this month to visit The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy AND Texas Tech Health Sciences School of Pharmacy, to teach students about pharmacy ownership. It felt great to finally come full circle and give back what I previously had taken. I hope one day a student who was inspired by my words & advice will do the same; continuing the legacy and love for independent pharmacy ownership. Independence and love for the profession is something special we surely must protect.
