Is Valsartan safe? On July 13, 2018, the U.S Food and Drug Administration alerted health care professionals and patients of a voluntary recall of several drug products containing the active ingredient valsartan. Valsartan is a commonly used prescription medication for treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. Due to the serious medical conditions that this drug is indicated for, the FDA recommends that patients taking the recalled valsartan-containing medicines, should continue taking their medicine until they have a replacement.
